I typically don't have a lot of free time so this has just been something I have done for myself or presents for my friends. It can be kinda expensive , especially with specific kinds of glass (anyone who has ever handled glass will know how expensive Diacrylic & Iridized glass can be).
This is my first time showing the "public" (as it were) and was wondering everyone's thoughts. Seeing that my clientele would typically be gamers and so forth I was wondering if anyone would be interested in stuff like this? Some of it is functional (like the Xbox 360 controller holder) or some of it can just be for show (Like the GTA 4 explosion). Unfortunately the Diacrylic and Iridized didn't show up like I would hope under my camera. The Diacrylic will change colors depending on which direction you are looking and the Iridized just adds this burnt depth that looks too cool.
Controller Holder: I made this because I was tired of just shoving my controllers around my Xbox and wanted a cool unique way to display my controllers. This has probably been the most requested by friends & family and the one that varies the most depending on which system it's for.
Gaming Display: Some people want it to be flat so they can put it on their coffee table or some people have wanted it to be rounded out to display it better (or maybe both). I have done titles (like the one above) to actual pictures...it just all depends on what you are going for (and it always starts off with a sketch to make sure it's just right).
After the project is done being cut everything is put into a kiln and fused together. Finally, I do any sand blasting or grinding that needs to be done depending on the look I'm going for. I have a bunch of different molds (platters, candles, bowls, etc) and I have even branched out to make glass boards for various types of card games (I only have pictures of the stuff above because I have given away everything else *laugh*).
That's really cool. I think a rounded picture so it could stand by itself would be cool. I like the GTA IV one except I don't like the game so it's not really my thing. But if it was Halo, Lost Odyssey, or Mass Effect.. that'd be real awesome.
A Mass Effect one would be cool...I just don't know what I should try and make. I need something to keep me busy when I'm not at work anyways...any suggestions would be appreciated my friend.
oh my goodness there's a million things from mass effect that can be done. Heck, just the logo would be awesome to do. Other than that, I don't know if a character could be done, but geesh you got two awesome characters to choose from. (the blue girl and the alien guy - the good one. It's been a long time since I played so I can't seem to remember their names). If not that than the Normandy or that umm... whatcha call it, craft that you use on all the different planets. So much to choose from
True...but it has to be simplified. Glass is a fickle/hard medium to get just right...harder still if you don't have the right kind of glass. I could do something really intricate if I had the kind of "Frit" glass where I could in a way paint with it. I think it would be awesome to try and do a portrait of one of the characters (but once again...that would take to buying a couple hundred dollars worth of Frit) Maybe I could try to come up with something fun using the NC-17 logo on Sheppards uniform? I'm thinking black background with a golden crome iridized glass for the lettering. Any suggestions as to what I could put around it or added to the black background?
hmmm, i am always really big on the space look, especially when it comes to games like mass effect. maybe some stars might lighten up the black background?
